The most practical difference between the Hario V60 01 and 02 is the size. Choose based on the amount of coffee you usually brew and pair it with the corresponding paper.
What the numbers indicate
- V60 01: Hario identifies this for 1–2 cups.
- V60 02: Hario identifies this for 1–4 cups.
Those figures are the manufacturer's nomenclature; they do not necessarily equate to your large breakfast mugs. Check the recipe and the volume you want to serve.
Which size to choose
For small brews and a compact setup, consider the 01. If you want more room to brew coffee for several people, compare the 02 options. Size alone does not guarantee better flavor: coffee, water, grind, and pouring technique also play a part.
The filter must match the dripper
For a V60 01, look for V60 01 paper; for the 02, V60 02 paper. Also check the model: Hario Pegasus and Syphon use other filters, even if they share the same brand.
In the store, you can view the plastic V60 01 and the Hario V60 02 filters. These two items are different sizes: do not choose them as a pair without checking.
